Reunification Palace 1
Here is reunification palace & a statue of the man himself, Ho Chi Minh. Look how happy Paul is. He found some maps!
Ho Chi Minh City 1
Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon as it was formerly known) is very busy, vibrant & full of motorbikes. Crossing the road can be a bit scary but we've got the hang of it now.
Vietnamese food is delicious, very fresh & light but there are a few unusual things that we've not seen on menus before such as hedgehog, beef penis (mmm) & this bird's nest drink the ingredients of which are water, white fungus & bird's nest. Sadly we didn't get to try it.
We spent a day visiting the War Remnants Museum here which was a very sobering experience. The exhibits included explanations of the continuing effects of Agent Orange which are absolutely horrific. We learned a lot. Here is Paul in the grounds of the museum with a U.S. helicopter.
Singapore 3
The waterfront at night is pretty spectacular. The building that looks like a giant fly's eye is a theatre. There was another building that looked like the spaceship in E.T. but sadly the photo didn't come out properly. The huge Art Deco number was right opposite our hotel. Didn't get to find out what it was but we're going to explore on our return visit.
Singapore is a lot like London would be IF it was clean, well organised, litter-free & in Asia of course. We loved it & are looking forward to coming back.
Singapore 2
We visited the National museum of Singapore which is quite possibly the best museum I've ever visited. It had a fascinating exhibit on Singaporean history AND a giant chilli outside. There were some great art installation pieces too including this one where the pillars appear to be melting. In the evening we go to a swish bar complete with huge pond & very friendly fish. I have a Singapore Sling (sorry, can't resist).
Singapore 1
After seven weeks in India Singapore is a bit of a breath of fresh air. All the stories we'd heard were true & we did find it unbelievably clean & well ordered. I loved this sign on a tube platform. A durian is a kind of fruit that is apparently quite smelly. I can't believe that someone could think to invent a special bag for wet umbrellas. Genius!
