We're in Wellington again after getting the ferry back across to the North Island. The only thing we wanted to do this time that we didn't get to do last time is visit Katherine Mansfield's childhood home. I've almost finished reading a collection of her stories before we visit can't believe that I've somehow missed reading her work until now. What an interesting woman she was too. We get to watch a DVD documentary about her life after walking around the house which has been beautifully restored. I'm now on the lookout for a secondhand copy of Claire Tomalin's biography of her. We're not allowed to take any photos inside the house which is a shame as every period detail has been taken care of & there is a visiting exhibition of some of Mansfield's clothes & trinkets including an adorable little brass pig with hog's hair inside which she used to wipe the excess ink from her pen.
