Sandfly Beach

This is the first and last picture we got at Sandfly Beach before our camera ran out of juice. Such a shame because we saw some yellow-eyed penguins come ashore for the night & had a close encounter of the slighly scary kind with the group of sealions.

We saw the group basking on the beach blocking our path to the penguin viewing hide & decided to try to sneak past them. We were very quiet but I don't think they liked us at all & when they sat up on their back flippers & started to roar we realised just how huge they were (much bigger than me) & thought we'd better scuttle along to safety. It was pretty amazing to be so close to them though. We were only a few metres away.
