At the Royal Albatross Centre on the Otago Peninsula you can spend time in a viewing towers complete with binoculars looking over the birds' nesting site. A huge colony of Stewart Island shags also live here. The staff has stuffed-toy albatrosses in all stages of growth for the visitors to hold. They are filled to sand to replicate the actual weight of the birds at each stage of their lives & boy, are they heavy.
