Beaver Dancing

Here's some footage from Youtube of the Beaver dancing to Vanilla Ice. You just have to click on the little window.

I LOVE this!

Go Beavers!

The baseball game is loads of fun. Unlike cricket they play cheesy songs to keep you entertained in the boring bits, the Beavers have a great logo & their mascot, a moonwalking break-dancing Beaver knocks spots off Harry the Hornet.

Pitching & Batting

Dan gives us a good crash course in understanding the rules.

The Beavers V The Isotopes

We get to watch our first ever baseball match The Portland Beavers are playing the Albuquerque Isotopes at the PGE park stadium which is right in the centre of town.

Willamette Wine Tasting

Yes, we're at it again. We're going to miss this wine tasting lark when we get home. Oregon's Northern Willamette valley is known for its Pinot Noirs. We also sampled some great viognier & some lovely fizz.

Out on the Willamette

Kayaking is great! It's a little tough getting used to the paddling at first but I'm lucky I get to share a two person kayak with Dan who has lots of experience & helps me out. It's so peaceful gliding along the river & we manage to spot an osprey & a great blue heron too.

Getting Ready for Kayaking

Terri & Dan are keen kayakers and decide to take us down to the Willamette to give us some lessons. Here we are getting kitted out before hitting the water.

Bartini & the Aftermath

Terri takes us to NW 23rd street, an area of Portland with lots of great bars, restaurants & quirky boutiques. We pick out a place called 'Bartini'. They specialise in inventive martinis, they serve fondue & it's happy hour. What's not to like? Five cocktails later we're feeling a bit sleepy & Upstairs decides to use Terri as a couch.

Edgefield's Gardens

We enjoy pottering around the gardens where all kinds of flowers, fruit & vegetables are growing. We admire the poppies, artichokes & blueberries & can't resist pinching a few blackberries.

Pipe Monsters

Not even the pipes have escaped the paintbrush. There's a lovely balcony where we relax in rocking chairs while Celia plays 'ready, set, go'.

Murals with Old People

Edgefield used to be a poorhouse and then an old people's home but now it's a fabulous multi-purpose estate including a hotel, winery, brewery, concert venue, spa & vegetable garden. The walls of the hotel are covered in murals often depicting elderly people. A nod to the building's former purpose. I especially like the reworking of Botticelli's Venus with an old lady & nurses.

Multnomah Falls

Bridal Veil Falls

Columbia River Gorge

We take a drive to Gorge Point where we can see over the river to Washington state with Terri & Dan's other house guests, their friends from Sioux Falls, Tina, Chad & their little two year old, Celia.
