Marlborough Wineries

After enjoying a couple of days in Wellington we get the inter islander ferry across to Picton on the South Island, pick our hire car & hit the road.

It must be at least a few weeks since we've visited a winery. Well, it's not something you can really do at home , is it, so we think we might as well fit in as many as we can. Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir are the most popular grape varieties grown in the region & lots of Pinot Gris too.

We stay at Watson's Way Backpackers' Hostel in Renwick where the owner Paul has named all the rooms after his children. He has a son called Kerry & there is a room named after him but sadly it's already occupied so we stay in 'Karen' instead. There are fruit trees growing in the garden of the hostel & we pick ourselves some apples and enjoy the homemade jam that Paul makes from the blackberries, plums & apricots.
