Our guide book tells us that there are toucans, ocelots & howler monkeys living in the jungle around Palenque but we don't hold out much hope of seeing any until we hear a sudden rustling in the trees above us. We look up to see a huge howler monkey jumping from tree to tree. It's tail is very long & the monkey uses it to help it swing from branch to branch. We manage to get quite close to it but sadly the photos don't turn out too well. Eventually the monkey & I lock gazes. The monkey wins the face off. It's pretty big & I'm not messing with it.
