So, we fly out of Auckland & into Nadi on Viti Levu which is Fiji's main island. We get a bus right across the island to Suva, the island's other main city on the East coast & stay one night there before getting a small boat across to the Lomaiviti group of islands & Caqalai, our chosen destination.
We've read about Caqalai in the Lonely Planet guide. It's tiny & it only takes 15 minutes to walk around the whole island. Our bure (beach huts) are the only buildings on the island & it's run by the Methodist church so there's no booze. They're happy for you to bring your own though. Even more crucially it's about four times cheaper than the other resorts we look at so it's a no brainer.
These photos are of our view as we approached the island by boat. The smaller island with the single palm tree on it is called snake island. You can swim to it from Caqalai for some great snorkeling.
